3 Tricks to Turn Your Internship Into A Full-Time Job
Sometimes, I think we forget that a few easy steps can take us very far.
This article from GenJuice provides a simple but straightforward approach to turning your internship into a full-time job. I love #2 in particular, about never eating lunch alone. I always tried to find someone new to lunch with throughout my various internships. Then, I would make sure to stay in touch through Facebook, email, Twitter or whatever medium worked best.
In fact, this is something good to try to SXSW. You would be amazed who you can connect with and how a couple of tacos and a drink can help break the ice.

How to Maintain Your Personal Brand as a Corporate Employee
Jeff Gotheif has a good post on Smashing Magazine from December about what sort of considerations you need to make when working for The Man and building your own brand.
How do you distinguish between You and The Company? Is there a separation?
However, “the idea of personal brand is often associated with independent practitioners”, as David Armano puts it. And for independents there are typically no conflicts as they are in the business of promoting themselves, their skills and knowledge. However, for practitioners working within corporations and interactive agencies, the challenge becomes balancing their personal brands with the corporate brand.

Did you know you get free Moo.com cards as attendees of SXSW? Well, you do!
I mean, business cards should be standard for you, and I hope you have a bunch to pass out, but in case you need a few more, log into sxsocial and click Swag on the right. On that page you’ll see the link to go get your 50 free business cards from Moo.
You can use any one of their designs, but Maira and I have come up with a few you can use, too, absolutely free. Just tell your friends. And tweet about it. And show some love.

5 Things I've learned about building a personal brand and why everything you've heard is bogus
This is a bit dated, but Mark Luckie, original author and creator of 10000words, wrote this handy list back in August 2010 about five relatively simple things you can do to build your brand.
Mark is a champ at personal branding, but I will likely need an entire post dedicated to his story. For now, check out his list.

HOW TO: Land a Job at 9 Hot Startups

An interview with @sxtxstate about our SXSWi core conversation
I had been meaning to post this for a little while, but a couple of weeks ago, Monique Ramos, a graduate student at Texas State University, interviewed me about our panel for the blog SXTXSTATE.
Anna and I are both alumni of Texas State and worked on the SXTXSTATE blog, which is a project for the advanced web design class taught by Dr. Cindy Royal, while we were there. So it was pretty cool to be on the flip side being interviewed, having graduated and started a career.
Read a synopsis of the interview or watch for yourself.

Twitter as a job board
Last night, Vadim Lavrusik tweeted about a new addition to the Mashable team, Brian A. Hernandez.

Hernandez wrote a short post on his blog/portfolio website on how he landed the job at Mashable, thanks to Lavrusik, who mentioned the opening in a tweet.
This is one reason why I think it is important to follow influential people on Twitter that are working at places where you want to be. They provide this type of information pretty regularly, and, of course, it’s a great way to connect with them.
Furthermore, I think Hernandez exemplifies the idea of having your personal brand together as a way to showcase your work and move up of the job ladder. He’s branded himself throughout the web as BAHjournalist. He provides several way to connect with him online, not just through Twitter and Facebook, but also Foursquare, Digg, StumbleUpon and more. He’s a great model for others to follow.
Congratulations to him and the best of luck at Mashable!
